WHERE TO FIND THEM

Below is a description of the different landscape features that I found in and around Cēsis.

CĒSIS TOWN

A town with its asphalt and concrete makeup usually resembles a rocky landscape. In the centre, buildings block the sunlight and asphalt covers the earth. In Cēsis, green spots were created by parks, gardens and the deserted banks of the many streams. As the town shifts to the countryside, nature takes over again, sometimes in neglected-looking areas or through grasslands.

CONIFEROUS FOREST

This is a dark forest with pines and spruce. The ground is full of pine needles that absorb sound. Is an ideal feeding place for mushrooms. In addition, you can also find some berries and herbs that have adapted to the acidic environment.

WATERCOURSES

Watercourses that contain everything from small streams to the river. Edible plants settle more easily in slow streams where they do not suffer from strong currents. Plant life in and along the streams depends on the soil condition of the area where the water flows. In pure water, watercress can be found in large densities.

WATERCRESS

Foraging period

PLANT: SPRING - SUMMER

FLOWERS: SUMMER - AUTUMN

SEEDS: AUTUMN

Watercress is a sharp-tasting herb. The plants contain a lot of vitamin C. Would be good for digestion and inflammation. Wash the plants carefully because plants that grow near water carry parasites more easily.
